Album Reviews Pt. 2
Last week we gave you guys Caleb's top three albums of the year and he came with some great picks. So it's only right that this week I gave you guys my top three picks from this year as well. Similar to Caleb, I have interest in a lot of musical genres. Some of my favorites to listen to are Rap, R&B, Pop, Jazz, and Rock. Some of my favorite artists are J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Willow, Spill Tab, Smino, Frank Ocean, and Tems. Now that you got to know a little bit of my music tastes let's get into my top three picks this year.
Starting with the third album on this list, we're going to be taking a look at The Weekend's "Dawn FM." With the second album in a current trilogy we are experiencing, Dawn FM takes The Weekend's catalogue to another level. The concept of trying to give advice to your younger self through the lessons you've learned is compelling. And using Jim Carrey on the album brings this album life. He makes references to the radio station "103.5 Dawn FM" which in other ways can connect to the songs he's on. Songs such as "Here we go...Again" and "Out of Time" are amazing expressions of heartbreak and the pitfalls that people go through in terms of relationships. Which The Weekend is always able to express throughout his discography. My favorite song from this project would have to be "Take My Breath."

Ranking the next two albums was very hard for me as both of them could very easily go into my number 1 spot. But coming in at the second spot is Kendrick Lamar's Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. The album starts with "United in Grief" which is a piece on the things Kendrick has been going through since the last album and recognizes that Kendrick's way of grieving is going to be different than everyone else's. The subject matter is really important on this album. "We Cry Together" is a view into a toxic relationship that should've ended a long time ago. But do to their living situations the couple feels like they're stuck with each other. On "Father Time" which is about Kendrick's time as a child with his father. His father in the song is very callous and tries to teach Kendrick life lessons through pain and fear. Which he tries not to emulate for his son. A lot of the issues he speaks on are relatable for other people which makes this a great album. My favorite song from this album would have to be "Mr.Morale"

The last album for this week is going to be JID's "The Forever Story". JID worked hard to improve from his last album "The Never Story." He's been working with J. Cole, he hired a vocal coach, and took a five year break before releasing this new album and you can tell. The album kicks off with two banger tracks in "Raydar" and "Dance Now." Which show off his lyrical prowess. JID has always had a unique flow, but it's more controlled this time around and the production is a lot better. On tracks such as "Bruddanem" he speaks on the importance of family and how he'd do anything for them. On my favorite track "Money" he talks about his childhood and how he had to deal with being from a less fortunate neighborhood. He also uses a lot of anecdotes which are relatable to make the story hit home. It's clear he put a lot of care into this album and that's why I have it at the top of the list this year so far.
