Hey Guys, Caleb Here. For my last post I wanted to go out with a bang. So, for this post I will talking about the Hip/Hop Industry during the year 2016. 2016 consisted of some of the greatest albums, songs, new artists, and best hits of my lifetime, all happening in the same year.
First off, we are going to talk about and discover the 2016 XXL Freshman Cypher. This video is a freestyle compilation that comes out each year, with Hip/Hop "rookies". Except 2016 is STACKED. The rookies of this year consisted of Kodak Black, 21 Savage, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Yachty, and Denzel Curry. All of these artists are known as superstars in today's game, so for them to all be on the same Freshman Cypher is absolutely unheard of. Each artist in this video showcased their flow, lyrics, freestyle, and all around vibe.
In 2016 we also got powerhouse albums, names consisting of Drake, Travis Scott, Rihanna, Fetty Wap, Future, and so many more, too many to all be named. Here, in this blog, I'm going to talk about my two favorite albums from that year. Which are Drake's Views and Future's Evol. Both album's having numerous hits.
First, is Drakes Views. Debuting his fourth studio album, Drake did not miss with any single one of these songs. My personal favorites are One Dance, Childs Play, and of course Hotline Bling. Not only did this album continue to create Drake's legacy, he pays huge homage to his hometown of Toronto in at least one way in each song on the album. Even on the album cover, Drake is pictured sitting atop Toronto's CN Tower, again paying homage to his city.
Next, is Future's Evol. This album, simply put, screams "Future". Who he is, what he raps about, and his ego. Steady and continuingly showing no matter what others do, he will be consistently flourishing and drowning in champagne. With a lack of features, audiences wondered what to expect of this album, but after it came out people realized Future is still Future. Features or no features, once you hear those hi-hats, be prepared for the Trap Genre Dominance you are about to witness. My personal favorites from this album are Seven Rings, Wicked, and, Low Life.
Lastly, some very notable songs from this year are Travis Scott's Goosebumps and Pick Up the Phone (Featuring Young Thug & Quavo), Timmy Turner by Desiigner, Swang by Rae Sremmurd, and the last honorable mention is Money Longer by Lil Uzi Vert (Pictured Below).
