Today on our Instagram page we took a look at some artists we felt were underappreciated and in this blog post we're going to be going more in depth for some of the artist that we're mentioned on the post.
The first artist we're going to be taking a look at is Don Toliver. His first mainstream appearance came from Travis Scott's "Can't Say" in which he had a guest feature on. He immediately grew in popularity after this and released another song "No Idea" which exploded on Tiktok. Since then he's released two projects, "Heaven and Hell" and "Life of a Don." Which have helped him gain popularity but he still has yet to reach the mainstream status that his mentor Travis has. Some songs I would recommend are "Way Bigger", "Cardigan", and "After Party."
Another person who hasn't gained the attention of mainstream media is
Spill Tab, the Los Angelas based artist who can bring a new style to the mainstream. Her first EP
"Oatmilk" was made during quarantine and consisted of four songs totaling seven minutes. But she captivated her audience with songs like
"Cotton Candy" and
"Santé" which left people wanting more. Taking advantage of her French heritage she wrote some of her songs in the language as well as English. This brought an entire dimension to her latest project
"Bonnie" with the track
"En Quatre." Some songs I recommend are
"Splinter",
"Grade A", and "
"Velcro"This next person is someone who I consider to have one of the best rap albums that I've ever heard. Chicago rapper
Saba made his first appearance on the rap scene through the
Chance The Rapper hit song
"Angels" in 2016. That was also the year he dropped his freshman project
"Bucket List Project" In 2017, Saba lost his cousin Walter Long Jr. which led to him making his album
"Care For Me" which I consider not only one of the best rap albums of the 2010's but one of the rap classics to be looked back on for decades to come. The album details his cousins death and the feelings he experienced after it. This is to me one of the best expressions of storytelling in the genre of rap and could be a template for how other rappers use their pain and experiences to help others heal. He released another album in 2022
"Few Good Things" which showed that "Care For Me" wasn't a fluke and that he still has many years in the rap game to blow up. Songs I recommend from him are
"Busy/Sirens",
"Prom/King", and
"Survivor's Guilt" |
